This study deals with "The Attitude of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) towards the Arab-Israeli Conflict"; during the year 1381A.D/1961A.D to the year 1432A.H / 2012 A.D; and it aimed at knowing the position of the Non-Aligned Movement towards the Arab-Israeli conflict during historical period of more than half a century, which witnessed many historical events because of the political activities of Non-Aligned Movement in expressing its positions on the Arab-Israeli conflict. Thus, the study followed the historical method based on the documented events and its analysis. Which showed that, the Non-Aligned Movement attitudes toward the Arab-Israeli conflict base on some mechanisms like holding conferences, either at the level of the heads of member states of (NAM) or at the level of foreign affairs ministers; as well as the representatives of (NAM) in the United Nations Group and the so-called the Palestine Committee, which consist of nine members countries of the Non-Aligned Movement. These conferences issued many decisions in the form of statements. That covered all elements of Arab-Israeli conflict like: Palestinian question, the issue of Lebanon, and the issue of occupied Golan plateau. The Palestinian issue had the greatest chance of interest at these conferences because it represents the core of the Arab-Israeli conflict. At these conferences, the basic components of Palestinian issue had been discussed extensively, these components are: the refugees issue, the issue of Jerusalem, and the issue of Palestinian people's rights of ending the occupation and establishing a Palestinian government. The (NAM) had given attention to the Arab-Israeli Conflict since its first conference in 1381A.H/ 1961A.D where it had taken positive attitudes, like: preventing Israeli from participating in the meetings of the Non-Aligned Movement on the basis that; Israel was colonial government which contradicts basic principles of NAM, that is called the "fighting colonialism principle". Then NAM did not forget the recognition of the Palestinian liberation organization (PLO) as a member in the Non-Alignment Movement. And NAM always setting constant item in its conferences titled "The Middle East Issue". And it always condemned the Israeli occupation, and encourage seeking for a solution to the Middle East problem. NAM asked its member to boycott Israel Politically, economically, and culturally as group or individually. It also, supporting all peace initiatives, which has sought several international destinations and continual focusing on the need of Palestinian people for all their rights such as; the most important full withdrawal of Israel from Palestine and establishment of a Palestinian government with its capital Jerusalem. Also, constantly emphasizes the need for refugees to get their full rights. In addition NAM refused the U.S.A support to Israel, and pursuit of making Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction including Israel which had a nuclear reactor. Also, NAM contributed in supporting Arab countries in all their wars against Israel, Israeli attacks on Lebanon, and supporting the Palestinian uprising and condemned the Israeli attacks on Gaza. Finally the Non Alignment Movement had many positive attitudes towards the issue of, Syria and worked to support it with full strengths, and by all means. And allocated a number of conferences and meetings concerning all problems, which formed an important core of the problem of the Arab-Israeli conflict. |
