Subject : Restricting Access to Recreation Facilities
Document Language : Arabic
Abstract : The aim of this study is to explore types of restrictions affecting women's decision to use recreation facilities available to Saudi women in the city of Jeddah. To analyze data collected from a sample of 580 women, Analysis of Variances (ANOVA) and the Scheffe Post-Hoc tests were utilized to calculate the correlative relations among the study's independent and dependent variables. The ArcGIS V.9.1 was used to build a geographic information system and create maps of Jeddah, to show the geographic distribution of all recreational facilities. The study found that five major independent variables (age, marital status, work, education, and income) were affecting women's decision to utilize recreational facilities. The study also found that the lack of different kinds of recreational activities, especially children's activities, high prices, low income, insecurity, and restrictions imposed by husbands and parents, were the most discouraging factors affecting women's visitation to recreational facilities.
