Abstract : In Saudi Arabia, traffic accidents experienced a substantial growth in the late eighties and early nineties. This many be attributed directly to economic growth, higher income, and increasing travel by private vehicles. This paper studies the number of traffic accidents in Saudi Arabia for the period 1977-1991. We expect that economic as well as noneconomic factors to affect the number of accident. This traffic accidents equation becomes a function of these variables. For this purpose, a recursive model has been utilized to estimate traffic accidents' parameters by using OLS technique. After correcting for the first order autocorrelation, regression coefficients are consistent with previous research, have the expected signs, and significant at the level 95% level. The empirical results show that income, car value, car status, driver's level of education, and driving time do play significant roles in determining the number of traffic accidents in Saudi Arabia.
