Abstract : This study aimed to investigate the effect of the interaction between the density of visual stimuli - medium level and high level - with an interactive interface type- simple level and complex level - in educational augmented reality environments on the academic achievement and cognitive load of intermediate school students in the science course. The study sample contains 75 students within four experimental groups, a control group, and an experimental group of 15 students for each group. The study population is the first-grade intermediate students in the Department of Education in Makkah Al-Mukarramah region of the east office. An experimental approach was used to collecting data and gathering results. Two measuring tools were used to gathering data: An academic achievement test prepared by the researcher and the NASA-TLX cognitive load scale. The results found statistically significant differences in favor of the fourth experimental group. Which was exposed to a simple interface type and medium intensity of visual stimuli, as it achieved the highest scores in the arithmetic averages of academic achievement and the lowest scores for the cognitive load variable, unlike the first group, whose results showed the lowest scores in the arithmetic means of academic achievement and highest scores are in cognitive load. The study attributed these differences for the independent variables, the visual stimuli, and interface type according to the statistical method that used. This study recommends paying attention to the variable intensity of visual stimuli and the pattern of interaction interface when building and designing educational augmented reality environments to achieve quality results at the level of academic achievement.
