EDUCATIONAL UNIT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF FEMALE STUDENTS ABILITIES IN THE USE OF CONCEPTUAL TEXTILE ART IN THE DESIGN OF CLOTHING ACCESSORIES

Abstract : The study aimed to design an educational unit to develop the abilities of the female students in the development of artistic treatments using the conceptual textile art techniques in the design of clothing accessories, measure the effectiveness of this unit in the development of knowledge and skills of the female students of Clothing and Fashion and Textile, Faculty of Human Science and Design, develop the imagination capabilities of the female students to make use of the techniques of conceptual textile art in devising new formative treatments in the design of clothing supplements, and develop various teaching strategies and methods to link curricula to changes in society. The study adopted the experimental approach (the design of the experimental group unit).As for the research instruments,they comprised a survey questionnaire for the opinions of specialists in fashion and textile, a survey questionnaire for the opinions of the female students and graduates in fashion and textile, the cognitive test (pre and post) and the skill test (pre and post), and the skill pefromance assessment scale (pre and post). The results of the study showed that there are statistically significant differences between the average scores of the female students in the knowledge and skills included in the educational unit in the pre and post applications, in favor of the post application. This means that the educational unit presented in this study was proved successful in achieving its goal, and already taught the foundations contained in it, in terms of knowledge and skills. There are also statistically significant differences between the average scores of the female students in the cognitive test before and after the application of the educational unit, in favor of the post-application. This shows the effectiveness of the knowledge contained in the educational unit in providing the female students with the knowledge required for the use of the conceptual textile art techniques in the design of clothing accessories. Eventually, there are also statistically significant differences between the average scores of the female students in the skill test before and after the application of the educational unit, in favor of the post-application. This indicates the effectiveness of the skills included in the educational unit in providing the female students with the skills required for using the conceptual textile art techniques in the design of clothing accessories. The researcher recommended the necessity to develop knowledge and skills that include the methods of designing clothing accessories, as well as paying attention to contemporary and postmodern arts in fashion design and clothin.
