Abstract : Human development is one of the most important criteria for the wealth of nations. Investing in human beings is the best type of investment because it is the basis for making socially and economically strong societies. The objective of the study was to identify the role of human development in achieving economic growth in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the period (1985 - 2015). To achieve this objective, the descriptive and analytical descriptive approach was adopted. The concepts and literature of the study were reviewed, by using E-views program a model is built to analyze the relationship between economic growth represented by GDP as a dependent variable and both variables (life expectancy at birth, average years of schooling, real GDP per capita, expenditure on education, health expenditure) as independent variables, by conducting multiple linear regression test, stable testing for variables, error correction model, and the causality test for Granger. The study showed a positive correlation between economic growth, real GDP per capita, expenditure on education in the short-term, and a positive correlation between economic growth, life expectancy and expenditure on education in the long-term. There was also an inverse relationship between economic growth and health spending in the short term. The results of the Granger Causality Test showed a one-way relationship between economic growth and life expectancy, average years of schooling and expenditure on health, indicating that the increase in economic growth leads to an increase in the variables mentioned earlier. The study concluded with recommendations, the most important of which are: support for continuing education programs, attention to education and motivation, training and qualification, holding periodic seminars in various universities to promote the importance of human development, and finally supporting Vision 2030 with more initiatives and ideas that contribute to the expansion of sustainable human development. Keywords: economic growth, human development, real GDP, education expenditure, health expenditure, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
