Abstract : This study aimed at identifying the role of value engineering in reducing costs and improving performance and quality of industrial sector in Jeddah. To achieve the objectives of the study the researcher designed a questionnaire, distributed to a random sample of financial directors, marketing managers, and engineers who work in this sector. the researcher distributed (100) questionnaires, (51) of them were approved for purposes of analysis. The study used a range of appropriate statistical methods, including the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and (T-Test) to test the hypotheses of the study variables that were measured according to the Likert scales. Study results showed that the industrial sector in Jeddah city applied some principles of value engineering, but differently, and results showed also the important role of value engineering in reducing costs, particularly at the design stage. Study findings explained the important role of experts, qualified work teams with high experiences in applying value engineering. At the end of the study there were recommendations of applying value engineering practices to improve quality and performance, and to exclude unnecessary costs to achieve the competitive advantage of industrial plants, to meet global competition, and work to attract qualified experts to apply engineering value systematic method, as well as motivate work teams in various sections to reach desired objectives and design more studies to explore how to use value engineering practices in reducing costs.
