Abstract : Brain computer Interface (BCI) allows users to interact with external devices using their brainwave signals. In order to control a device by brainwave signals, the later should pass through a series of processing operations that needs a lot of time and therefore limits their usage in real-time. In the other hand, most modern computers possess multicore central processing unit (Multicore CPU) that permits, with parallel technologies, to speed up the scientific computations. The objective of this master thesis is to study the possibility of improving the performance of a brain computer interface application using parallel computation on multicore CPU and how to do it. To this end, a combination of emotional and two-class Steady State Visual Evoked Potential (SSVEP) BCI application is designed. The processing algorithms of the application are developed in two modes: serial mode and parallel mode. The designed application and the developed processing algorithms are applied to control a robot in real-time and the results of four subjects are compared. The parallel mode showed higher performance than the serial mode in term of execution time and therefore in its applicability in real-time.
