The research submitted to the Arabic Language Department in King Abdulaziz
University in Jeddah in the year of 2013 - which is a prerequisite for acquiring a
Master's degree- addresses the heroine in the Saudi novels during the historical
period following the events of September 2001 until the year 2011.This time
interval was a period of radical change witnessed by the entire realm of the Saudi
novelists. The change is depicted by the abundance of fictional production, its
maturity, the increase in female production specifically, and the presence of
social commentary.
The research premeditated studying the picture of the heroine in fourteen novels
chosen by specific considerations. The Integrated approach is adopted as the
analytical method for this study because of its openness and acceptance of
psychological, social, linguistic and artistic analyses- something that is needed
for examining the novel's image. The image in the novel is characterized by all
the social, physical, and psychological personifications of the protagonist. It also
takes into consideration the main character's speech and the artistic aspects of
the heroine.
The research addresses the heroine's image in accordance with all the
aforementioned considerations, and attempts to paint her with precision and
Impartiality following The (Stream Of Consciousness) mode’s considerations -
into which the selected novels fall under-.
The research concluded to four images in which the Saudi heroine appeared
during the time period between 2001 and 2011, and they are: the victim/ rebel
heroine, the educated heroine, the reflective heroine, and the problematic
heroine. Also, the research portrayed the physical, psychological, and social6
dimensions of the heroine, the settings in which the heroine appears, and the
linguistic phenomena that occurred in the writer’s language. |
