Abstract : The current study is concerned with the Grammatical Simplification (GS) in the Holy Quran as a linguistic phenomenon which has been attracting the grammarians’ attention in the past and present. It aims to highlight how the grammarians account for this phenomenon. The main reason behind tackling this phenomenon in this study is that it has not received an adequate investigation and research. The researcher has not found any applied study concerned with the Grammatical Simplification in the Holy Quran, during his review of the previous studies. The researcher has followed the linguist’s guiding principles concerning the research methodology. A special course of action has been followed in this study which depends on a set of procedures taken by the researcher to collect the research materials. It also includes the methods of classifying, comparing & contrasting, analyzing, formulating and application. The current study aims to arrive at an accurate and specific definition for the concept of the Grammatical Simplification in the Holy Quran and to classify the various aspects in which the Grammatical Simplification appear. Furthermore, the study aims to conclude the way by which grammarians have addressed the concept of Simplification and to identify the mechanism by which grammarians have used to account for this concept in addition to reveal the relationship between GS and the related grammatical concepts. The significance of the study lies in the need for clarifying the different grammatical concepts and to disentangle the relationships between them, as well as to observe the impact of each of those grammatical concepts on the grammatical description of any linguistic piece. Due to the intricate nature of this topic, it has been divided into four chapters, preceded by an introduction and preface chapters, and followed by a concluding chapter. The First Chapter deals with the Patterns of Grammatical Simplification in the Holy Quran. It includes three sub-topics: GS using deletion, GS using substitution and GS using both deletion with substitution. The Second Chapter focuses on the Grammatical Simplification Regularities and Irregularities. It includes two sub-topics: Regular Simplification and Irregular Simplification. The Third Chapter is concerned with the Grammarian’s Accounts for the GS Phenomenon in the Holy Quran. This chapter includes three sub-topics: phonetic laws, Accounting for Simplification only and Accounting for Simplification and Other Concepts. The Fourth Chapter discusses the Accounts of the Grammarians for the GS in the Holy Quran. This chapter includes tow sub-topics which are: Dialects, and other orientations for the amplification. The Conclusion reviews the results of this study. It is followed by index, and references.
