Abstract : An educational software; Bonding, is introduced for the design of bonded joints. Bonding is a relatively simple, user-friendly and yet powerful tool for the analysis and design within the emerging arena of bonding. The user starts the application by specifying his case as one of the six available bonding geometries. In all cases, the user is prompted to describe the geometry of the joint, the forces and couples acting on the joint, and to specify the materials, i.e., the material used for bonding as well as the base material. The program allows the user to add his own materials and their characteristic. Invoking next, the Calculate command, the software carries out a series of computations, after which it presents a short report comprising the maximum applied stress, the minimum required joint dimension, and whether or not the joint is safe.
