المستخلص : Abstract - In order to assess the social life of cancer patients during therapy among a Saudi population, a questionnaire was distributed to cancer patients with mixed diagnoses during their first six months of therapy. Three tertiary health care centers contributed into this study. The questionnaire consisted of six items regarding the social life of cancer patients during treatment. Data were collected and analyzed. Two hundred and twenty-five (225) patients participated in this study (J08 males, 117 females). Mean age was 47.2 years, rang¬ing between 29 and 71 years. Almost 78% received chemotherapy and 22% radiotherapy. Analysis of the results revealed 49.3% of patients felt distant from their friends, 2.7% had no emotional family support, 6.2% had no support from their friends and neighbours, 2.7% had no family acceptance to their illness, 72% poor family communication about their illness and 78.2% were not satisfied with sexual life. Overall results revealed the presence of significant social problems among many cancer patients, more in females than males. The overall social problems were more frequent in those patients having radiotherapy than in those having chemotherapy.
